Ruby Angoras is our Angora rabbitry! We chose this name for 2 reasons:
- Proverbs 31:10 says, “A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies.” This verse was a major inspiration behind me pursuing this. As a wife and mother Proverbs 31 has given me great guidance and inspiration in the kind of woman God would have me to be. Proverbs 31 goes on to talk about how the virtuous woman weaves wool, etc. and makes things with her hands. Reading this gave me peace that this was something that God would be pleased with in my life.
- Our first angoras are French and they carry the REW gene, which gives them their red eyes that remind me of rubies! We also value these beautiful and sweet creatures like the jewels they are!
We raise Angora rabbits for their wool, in order to make our own yarn and to also sell fiber to others. Currently we own 3 Angora Rabbits (from Charm City Angoras) named T’Challa (torte), Ruby (REW) and Levi (REW). Ruby and T’Challa will be bred towards the end of the summer and we are in the process of purchasing Levi’s mate (Levi and Ruby are brother and sister so they cannot be mated) from Trinity Farms. We are also buying a black satin Angora in May (from Windchaser Angoras), so we will also have a little satin fiber in the future. For now, our main focus will be to breed, raise and harvest French angoras and our satin will most likely be a pet that gives us wool from time to time. However, we are considering raising other types of angoras in the future.
