Proverbs 31:13, 19

proverbs31weaving2This morning I was awakened by the memory of Proverbs 31 and how much it talks about how a virtuous woman is engaged with the fiber arts and making things with her hands. In fact there are quite a few verses in Proverbs 31 dealing with how the virtuous woman works with fiber, needlework, sewing, etc. to make things for other people.   I had never focused on these verses before, but when God brought it to my remembrance, my heart became joyful.  I felt it was God encouraging me to continue to dive into this hobby.

I feel I now understand that when I am working with my hands in crochet or knitting, I am right where God wants me to be.  It explains the almost magical sense of peace I have when I am working in this hobby. It’s why I try to do it every day, even if it’s just a little bit!  I really do feel that I was led to take on this hobby and I find myself consumed with it.

The Proverbs 31 woman is always making things with her hands for her family andweavingprov31 community and I am finding that is how I am spending my time more and more. My current mission is to make baby blankets for women I know who are having babies and I am so excited. I feel like I have purpose and meaning by using my hands to be a blessing to people.

I have also become interested in making yarn and had been finding myself dreaming of having a farm to raise Merino sheep.  Merino yarn is my favorite yarn. So soft that when

I work with it, the softness calms my whole body.  However, I do not have a farm and probably never will, so I’d started looking into buying merino wool from local farms.  Then recently I discovered Angora Rabbits and this whole world has opened up to me for raising these rabbits for their wool. It’s a new venture and I am so excited. The hobby is doable, affordable and I’ve found breeders located close to me.

Because the Proverbs 31 woman was also a business woman, I do

plan on making yarn, and also selling the wool and breeding the rabbits.  I will soon bring a male English Angora into my home and am waiting on a couple of breedings for another English Angora and a French Angora.  We’ll see where this goes!

I am so excited to finally have found a hobby that takes my mind away from the daily grind and yet connects to the Proverbs 31 woman. She has always been my inspiration.
